September Book Blog

This month we have two great reads for you and your littles!

Language : Pepi Sings a New Song by Laura Ljungkvist

Pepi is a unique little bird who loves singing with his friend Peter. They like to sing the same song every night until Peter gets tired of his song...so Pepi goes out to look for a new song. He sees sooo many things (bakery, music studio, art studio, market, park) and gets great inspiration for a NEW song. Peter loves it and they sing it together!

WHAT WE LOVE:

- This book has great VISUALS for categories.

- We also love that the book encourages littles to be aware of their surroundings and notice how things go together, and of course how making up your own song can be an adventure (which we do to help remember just about everything)!

THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR LITTLES:

Depending on what level your little is at....

1. You can have your child name all the objects in the category

2. Name the category after going over all the objects together

3. Come up with a few more objects for the category on your own!

* We ALWAYS encourage singing while learning, because it helps build pathways in your brain!

Emotion/Social: A Family is a Family is a Family by Sara O'Leary

A little girl's class is discussing families at school (like many classes do during the first week of school). All of her friends seem to have different family dynamics and everyone has something that is special about their own family. At the end of the book the little girl shares that she lives with her foster mom and that she is loved just as much as any other kid. After all "a family.. is a family.. is a family!"

WHAT WE LOVE:

- This book shows all different unique and GREAT families

- It shows that families may look different and that's ok

- It shows being UNIQUE is wonderful

THINGS TO DO WITH YOUR LITTLES:

Depending on what level your little is at....

1. Draw a picture of your family

2. Talk about what makes your family GREAT

3. Talk about how our friends families may look different than ours and what is great about being UNIQUE.
